Natural Rubber Latex vs Silicon: Which is Better?

Natural Rubber Latex vs Silicon: Which is Better?

Pacifier nipples are created from two different materials: natural rubber latex and silicone, which are both hypoallergenic. We are frequently asked by parents what type of material they should use and which one is preferable to use. Don’t worry, we’re here to assist and guide you through the process. Latex is made of Natural Rubber.

Natural Rubber latex is a naturally occurring substance derived from the Hevea tree’s milky sap, which is tapped to make it. Refined to the brown/yellow rubber used in pacifiers, the fluid is similar to the mother’s soft nipple in its softness, flexibility, and resilience.

The aging process of natural materials is influenced by environmental factors such as sunlight, air, saliva, and heat. If the nipple is not replaced in time, the elasticity of the material allows it to change shape and size due to the baby’s powerful vacuum.

Safe and hygienic practices call for steaming or boiling natural rubber latex pacifiers rather than boiling them. There may be some color variation in rubber due to its natural composition.

Known for its purity, silicone is an industrially produced anti-allergenic, odorless, and tasteless material. All hazardous and endocrine-disrupting substances like BPA, PVC, and phthalates are completely eliminated from this product. Even though it is not as soft as real rubber latex, the transparent nipple is able to tolerate high temperatures, does not degrade or lose its shape, and does not age.

Silicone

Because of its high purity, silicone is a widely used industrially produced hypoallergenic, tasteless, and odorless material. All hazardous and endocrine-disrupting substances like BPA, PVC, and phthalates are completely eliminated from this product. Even though it is not as soft as real rubber latex, the transparent nipple is able to tolerate high temperatures, does not degrade or lose its shape, and does not age.

Silicone comes in two varieties.

1) Food-grade silicone for food-contact items or

2) pharmaceutical and implant device-grade silicone (medical-grade). The primary distinction between the two grades is how they are applied:

In our situation, we employ food-grade silicone for silicone nipples, where high tensile values are critical for food contact.

Unlike pacifier nipples, which don’t need to be checked for biocompatibility, pharmaceuticals and implant devices require medical-grade silicone. The use of medical-grade silicone does not guarantee that products will be of higher quality or have better mechanical qualities.

Medical-grade silicone, on the other hand, may even degrade the strength values that are so critical for pacifier nipples.

As required by law, both grades are produced using stringent quality-control techniques that guarantee their safety and the health and well-being of others. We only use FDA-approved food-grade silicone for our silicone nipples. We still recommend that you change your pacifiers every 4-6 weeks for hygiene reasons. Conclusion

Natural rubber latex and silicone are the two main components of pacifier nipples. The milky sap of the Hevea tree is used to make natural rubber latex, while silicone, and industrial anti-allergen, is odorless and tasteless. All of our pacifiers are made with silicone that is food-grade and has no hazardous or endocrine-disturbing components like BPA or PVC. For sanitary reasons, we still recommend that you change your pacifiers every 4-6 weeks.
